Effective Altruism: 'Munificence matched with Maths'

In what is traditionally our season for giving and good will I recall an excellent article in The Atlantic recently, ‘The Greatest Good’ by Derek Thompson. In it Derek explores the movement of ‘Effective Altruism’, also described as ‘Munificence matched with Maths’, which attempts to maximise the effectiveness of our philanthropy. It is a highly meritorious pursuit and, as with any science, not without its challenges and opponents.

This article is thoroughly enjoyable very thought provoking. I welcome you to take ten minutes to read it, and trust it will stimulate you to reflect on your philanthropic choices.
